![]() ![]() I would like to take a moment to explain colored pencil portraiture. Most people are familiar with the standard oil painting portrait. A colored pencil portrait is simply drawn with colored pencils. I have gone to great lengths to establish a style that is reminiscent of the old masters of oil painting. When the colored pencil portrait is completed, most people cannot tell what medium was used to complete the piece, thus a new style was born. Pose selection is very important. Most of my work is very classical in its nature. Somber and elegant poses are achieved. Happy smiling poses are not used, as my goal is to keep the integrity of poses from the past. Try to picture the Mona Lisa with a huge toothy smile. I think we all agree the mystery and elegance would have been lost. I like to point out these style issues to my clients before we start a portrait. This allows us both to have an understanding of how your finished piece will look. It will also help us to achieve a successful collaboration. If a photographic likeness is what you are looking for than I am not the artist for you. I encourage you to have a professional photograph taken if that is what you are looking for. If you are looking for a drawing that captures the essence of the sitter then this is a medium for you to consider. A portrait is not just a picture to hang on a wall. It is also an investment, and a family heirloom that can be enjoyed for future generations. It is also an experience that can be a lot of fun! I enjoy working with my clients. Your ideas and personal expectations will be my highest priority. I look forward to working with you in the future. |
